LabVIEW is a programming environment: you build the measurement system by writing it, in a graphical language, and it reaches as far as your code does. Ganter Lab is a finished application: you connect the devices, draw the screens and describe the logic in forms, and the station runs without a project to compile. If the hard part of your work is the measurement itself, the first one fits. If it is watching, recording and operating what already measures, the second gets you there sooner.

What Ganter Lab is

  • It is a graphical programming environment for test and measurement, from National Instruments, and it is at its strongest driving that vendor's own measurement hardware.
  • It is a paid product licensed per seat, sold in its current catalogue as a subscription, with a community edition offered for non commercial use.
  • It runs on the engineer's own computer, and code written there can also be deployed to that vendor's real time and FPGA targets.

Where LabVIEW is the better choice

  • You are driving NI measurement hardwareAcquisition boards, modular instruments and instrument drivers from that vendor are supported there first and best, and that catalogue has decades behind it.
  • The measurement itself is the hard partCustom signal processing, tight instrument sequencing and analysis that has to be written rather than configured belong in a programming environment, not in a settings screen.
  • You need real time or FPGA executionGanter Lab is a supervisory application on a Windows machine. It watches, records and commands; it does not replace a deterministic target.
  • Your team already writes itAn existing library of instrument code, and engineers who think in that language, outweigh any feature list, including this one.

Where Ganter Lab is the better choice
