# Gauge

> Dashboard component reference for the radial Gauge, its dial geometry, presets, indication, scale bands and every editor property.

The **Gauge** draws one numeric point on a radial dial. Everything about it is a
statement of what the dial *is* — its sweep, what points at the reading, which parts of
the scale are drawn, what the reading says and what it is painted with. When the point
has no reading (bad quality, an unresolved address), the pointer, the fill and the value
disappear together and the dial shows the gap mark (—) in place of a number; the banded
track stays, because the bands are a declaration and not a measurement.

## Format {#format}

## Dial {#dial}

Angles run counter-clockwise from three o'clock, so 225° to −45° puts the middle of the
scale at the top. A **preset** is a shortcut, not an identity: applying one writes the
geometry and indication fields below and is then forgotten, so every field stays editable
one by one afterwards. What a preset says nothing about — the address, the scale
endpoints, the format, the bands, the reference, the accent, whether the reading and the
label are written — survives untouched.

An angle typed outside its band is taken at the nearest edge and the panel says so; text
that is not a number leaves the angle in force.

## Indication {#indication}

What points at the value, and what that indication is painted with. The accent is
identity, not meaning — the bands below say what a reading means and keep the last word
over the reading's colour.

## Scale {#scale}

The shared **Scale** section declares the stretches of the scale and what each means, and
the reference the dial marks.

- Each **band** covers everything up to its bound, from where the band above it in the
  list ended, so the bound is also the band's place; a reading past the last bound
  belongs to no band and takes the ordinary ink. The tone — Neutral, Information,
  Success, Caution, Critical — is the interface's own vocabulary, and the theme decides
  the paint. Wording a band names the state, and the gauge can show that word beside its
  reading.
- The **reference** marks a setpoint or nominal on the scale: nothing, a fixed value, or
  a point that moves with the recipe. It is drawn only while the scale reaches it.
